A Fun-Packed New York SCBWI Conference
Two and a half days of meeting old friends, making new ones, listening to profound, inspiring speeches, attending presentations, and giving some of my own! Seeing Tomie dePaola bid "adieu" to his role in the SCBWI moved many of us after all the incredible championing he did for illustrators over the years.
Thanks to all of you who have come to my presentations and thanks to the organizers who ran the show with precision and grace. I enjoyed meeting so many new faces, and discovering such beautiful art! The future looks very promising for graphic novels for children, and we can all make it even more beautiful by giving it our very best!
Next stop: the Los Angeles SCBWI conference? ;-D

I agree...great conference! I enjoyed your presentation on graphic novels, and talking to you as well. I found the article I was telling you about. It's called "Reading Lessons: Graphic Novels 101" by Hollis Margaret Rudiger in the March/April 2006 issue of Hornbook. She uses an excerpt from "Daisy Kutter: The Last Train" to show how to read visually.
The tag line at the end of the article says the author leads workshops for teachers and librarians on how to use graphic novels and comics in the classroom. So it looks like she's building your market!
I couldn't find a weblink to that article (lots of graphics probably made it tricky to post) but there was also another article with FAQ's on graphic novels in the same issue. Here's the link to that one:

Thanks again for the inspiration,
