How Many Pages Should a Kids Graphic Novel Have?

Seriously! I'm asking you. In my next posts, I'll address that question from the angle of the reader, publisher, writer and artist. Meantime, I'd love to have your input. So please click on the "comments" link below and tell me how many pages children's graphic novels should have and why! :-)

Happy Birthday, Herge!!!

Tintin creator and master of comics, Hergé, was born 100 years ago! Happy Birthday! Here's a past homage I did for Tintin's birthday, published in the Comic-Con's Souvenir Book 2005.

Upcoming SCBWI Kite Tales Article on Graphic Novels for Children

Illustrator and friend, Mary Peterson, has invited me to write an article for an upcoming issue of Kite Tales, the SCBWI newsletter of the Southern California region. The article will focus on concepts and considerations involved in creating graphic novels for kids. Another friend and illustrator, Erin Eitter Kono, wrote a useful feature on her process in the latest Kite Tales issue. Speaking of Erin, check out the cover of her latest book on her blog -- looks terrific!

Teaching about Graphic Novels at the Summer SCBWI Conference

The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators website has officially posted its Summer Conference line-up, and I'm thrilled to present two sessions on creating graphic novels for children. One focuses on concepts writers should master to write graphic novel manuscripts (Sunday morning) and the other on what makes a graphic novel page layout successful for the reader (Friday morning). In coming days, I'll detail more about each session. I also noticed a third session on graphic novels by Laurent Linn and Mark McVeigh. Exciting!
